About the Doctoral Scholarships from the Trudeau Foundation: The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship Program will aid in developing researchers into active leaders who are aware of the significance of their work, rooted in the realities of the communities where they operate, and receptive to unconventional forms of knowledge. The Foundation is looking for people who are bold, inventive, and future-focused.
The program will provide Scholars with considerable assistance for their PhD work over the course of three years in the form of a stipend and a research and travel allowance.
Selection Standards
Academic quality, leadership talents, research that is thematically relevant to the Foundation's concerns, public participation, and a desire to share knowledge and contribute to public discourse;
talents in communication;
want to be a part of a dynamic network that includes leaders from many industries
Candidates representing all types of diversity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, language, area, and discipline, are welcome at the Foundation. Inuit, Métis, and First Nations candidates are encouraged.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible to apply for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship, you must:
1) You must already be enrolled in a full-time doctoral program, be in your first or second year of study there, and be on track to graduate in 2026 or later.
2) Your subject of study broadly relates to humanities or human sciences that have direct bearing on Canada's future; (please refer to the FAQ for more details and read up on past scholarship recipients)
3) At least one of the Foundation's four themes—people and their natural environment, responsible citizenship, human rights and dignity, and Canada and the world—must be related to your PhD study.
4) Be a Canadian citizen participating in a PhD program at a Canadian or international university, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident of Canada or foreign national).

Candidates who match the eligibility requirements and are dedicated to a three-year leadership program can submit an application directly to the Foundation through the application portal.
Universities are crucial in promoting applicants, endorsing applicants (academic referees), and subsequently verifying the status of their students and other information.
All applications are reviewed by the Foundation, and those who make the short list are invited to group interviews. The Application and Nomination Review Committee (ANRC), which conducts interviews with the finalists, then makes recommendations about the winners to the Board of Directors for final approval.

During the first year of your term, go to two Institutes of Engaged Leadership and a community retreat;
Plan a conference event with others and attend it during the second year of your term;
During the third year of your term, collaborate with other Scholars, Mentors, and Fellows on a novel knowledge-sharing and dissemination project;
Become fluent in both French and English with assistance from the Foundation;
actively interact and work together with the community of Fellows, Mentors, and Scholars at the Foundation; and
provide one year progress report on your research.

The Foundation acknowledges that the ability to speak various languages is a quality that distinguishes leaders and public intellectuals and is a benefit both professionally and personally. Do you support free speech, civil discourse, and open debate in academia? The Foundation cultivates a community of fearless, cutting-edge researchers and community leaders who have strong opinions and stand out in their respective fields. These individuals explore, pose challenging questions, find new horizons, and forge new paths. The Foundation has made it clear that it supports free knowledge sharing and transmission by including this in its Code of Community Engagement. The Code provides guidance for effective interaction with a variety of viewpoints and supports academic and intellectual establishing a framework for a constructive and healthy environment for such interactions, while promoting freedom and open speech.

Referees: Two referees' names and email addresses should be included in the spaces given. An academic referee who can comment on your performance in university coursework must be one of them, if not both. For further information, see "Get recommendations" below.
Language Proficiency, Post-Secondary Education, Accomplishments, and Experience Give details on your language abilities, post-secondary education, and accomplishments, including any awards, publications, conferences, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work, as well as your relevant employment history.
Upload Accounts: Upload transcripts for all of your post-secondary coursework, with the exception of any information pertaining to any CEGEP you may have attended in Quebec.

The preset referral form must be filled out by referees, including narrative responses and numerical ratings. On our application platform, we no longer request that referees upload their reference letters in PDF format. You should check in with your referees to make sure they submit the completed form by December 2, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Process for choosing PETF: All qualified
Candidates will go through a rigorous selection process if they submit a complete application by December 2, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Group interviews with the shortlisted candidates (Round One) will be scheduled for February 2023. Then, in March 2023, finalists (Round Two) will be invited to meet with ANRC members for individual interviews.
