Over the course of the following three years (2018–26), 81 Stormzy Scholarships will be awarded to Black students, an increase of 36.

The "Stormy Effect" is still in effect, as seen by the admission of 141 Black students from the UK in 2022, a 131% rise from 2018.

Since it was founded in 2018, the Stormzy Scholarship has provided financial aid to 32 UK Black students, transforming their college experiences. Prior to its expansion in 2021, the programme only had two students enrolled year. Stormzy's #Merky Foundation, in partnership with HSBC UK, will award scholarships to at least 10 Black students starting their studies in the fall of 2023.

In the last three years, almost 400 Black students from the UK have come to Cambridge to start their studies.

Additional work must be done to make sure that UK Black students not only apply to study at the University but also feel at home and realise their full potential.

What Stormzy Scholarships at Cambridge University Are For and Why They're Beneficial

Beneficiaries of the scholarships will be considerably less likely to need to take out loans from the government or from private lenders because they are non-repayable and come with a maintenance allowance. The last three or four years of the beneficiaries' undergraduate programme will be covered by this financing. Each student will receive a total prise worth £20,000 for the 2023–24 academic year. A person's capacity to obtain a Cambridge Bursary won't change as a result of receiving this award.

Qualifying Criteria for Stormzy Scholarships at Cambridge University

All applicants for the Stormzy Scholarship are required to

a member of one of the following races or ethnicities:

  • the African black

  • Caribbean African

  • Black and White Other Mixed in the Caribbean

  • Africans who are mixed-race white and black

Other people, such as Black Africans, Black Caribbeans, or Black Others, who are of mixed heritage

have requested a tuition fee loan and maintenance loan from Student Finance (England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland) and received notification that they have reviewed your request and will fund you. It must have been agreed to conduct an income assessment and inform the institution of the findings. Please be aware that even if you receive a Stormzy Scholarship, you will be able to pay off all of your debt, but you will still need a Student Finance income assessment in order to be eligible for the Cambridge Bursary.
