For Norwegian master's scholarships, international students can apply.

Although there are numerous Masters scholarships available in Norway for international students, we have our doubts about whether the country would still provide financial aid to these students if tuition expenses were to rise.

The list below includes the most widely used funding options. The prerequisites to be eligible for financial aid from the Norwegian government for future non-Norwegians are also covered.

The contributions made by the American-Scandinavian Foundation

For American college students enrolled in Norwegian language studies at a Norwegian university, the American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships and awards.

It is possible to undertake research studies for a year in Norway (or another Nordic nation) with the help of fellowships, the maximum value of which is USD $23,000. The grant's maximum value is $5,000 USD and it can only be used for three-month research projects or study abroad trips.

You must also submit a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, and a research proposal to be evaluated for admission. You must also show evidence of your Norwegian language proficiency. Beginning in November, applications are due, and those selected will be notified in the middle of April.

Please be aware that neither Norwegian language courses nor English language courses qualify for ASF funding.

fees for master's programs in Norway for international students

For students from Switzerland and outside the EU/EEA who enroll in Norwegian master's degree programs, tuition will start to accrue in the fall of 2023. There is still a need for further details about this and how it will affect public universities.

In Norway, there are a number of private universities that charge tuition, however at these schools, international students typically pay the same as Norwegian citizens. The payments could be very different and total up to €10,000 each year.

You frequently have to pay a small semester fee at any university you attend. Set aside between $30 and $60 for this.
