Once the Canadian school has received financing from DFATD in the form of a contribution agreement from each successful application, it will be in responsible of distributing the monies to scholarship recipients.
A scholarship may be worth up to CAD 10,000 for graduate (Master's and PhD) students for a period of five to six months of study or research, or up to CAD 12,700 for university, college, or graduate (Master's and PhD) students for a minimum of four months or one academic term. The length and difficulty of the course determine how much money is awarded in scholarships.
The Canadian host institutions will receive CAD 500 for each scholarship recipient in addition to the money given by DFATD to the grantees to help with administrative expenditures once the scholarship recipient arrives in Canada.
The additional employer compliance fees that Canadian institutions paid to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in some instances may be refunded.

With the exception of computers and other technologies, the following costs should be covered by scholarship funds: airfare only on the most direct and economical route for the scholarship recipient; health insurance; living costs, such as those for housing, electricity, and food; ground transportation, such as a pass for public transportation; and books and other materials required for the recipient to conduct research or study.
Once the Canadian school has secured financing from DFATD in the form of a contribution agreement, it will pay scholarship recipients in accordance with its own policies.
Canadian universities are required to refund all money, including the administrative fee, to DFATD in the event that a scholarship winner declines it.
