Overview of Scholarships: 

The Purpose of Studying in Canada The goal of scholarships is to increase the likelihood that Canadian post-secondary institutions will accept short-term exchanges of overseas students for study or research from a variety of countries and territories.


Successful Canadian post-secondary institutions will have the chance to strengthen and diversify their international ties as well as promote their academic and research excellence in the new markets, in line with the objectives of Canada's International Education Strategy.


The program's new connections will strengthen bilateral ties, broaden and improve Canada's educational engagement with a variety of partners, and help the greater objective of the Canadian government to diversify its global trade. 


The Canada Study Scholarships Competition is ended for the 2022–2023 academic year.

Who can apply: Canadian post-secondary institutions

NOTICE: Applicants may not submit applications on their behalf through organizations outside of Canada. They may opt to determine on their own internal schedule for acquiring the required papers.


The Study in Canada Scholarships provide students from post-secondary institutions located in the new eligible countries/territories with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels in Canadian post-secondary institutions. 


This student exchange program has superseded the full-degree-based Study in Canada Scholarships program, which was tested in 2020. At least 50 scholarships will be awarded in the following contest, with the overall number increasing yearly.

Scholarship winners agree to: Accept their award in Canada between August 1, 2022, and no later than February 1, 2023; full-time study or research, as defined by the Canadian institution. In the event that you do not arrive by this time, the scholarship may be revoked.

The Canadian institution will be in responsibility of disbursing the funds to scholarship recipients after receiving funding from DFATD in the form of a contribution agreement from each successful applicant.


A scholarship may be worth up to CAD 10,000 for university, college, or graduate (Master's and PhD) students for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research, or up to CAD 12,700 for graduate (Master's and PhD) students for a period of five to six months of study or research. The amount of a scholarship varies according to the length and level of study.

Once the scholarship applicant lands in Canada, the Canadian host institutions will each get CAD 500 to help with administrative costs. in in addition to the money that DFATD has given the grantees.


In rare cases, Canadian institutions may receive a reimbursement for the increased employer compliance fees they paid to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Scholarships ELIGIBLE COSTS

Scholarship funds should be used for the following expenses, excluding computers and other technology: fees for a visa or work permit; airfare only on the shortest and least expensive route for the scholarship recipient; health insurance; living expenses, such as those for housing, electricity, and food; ground transportation, such as a pass for public transportation; and books and other materials needed for the recipient to conduct research or study. 


The Canadian institution will pay scholarship winners in accordance with its own policies after obtaining funding from DFATD in the form of a contribution agreement.


If a recipient rejects the scholarship, Canadian universities must return all funds to DFATD, including the administrative charge.

The merit of the proposed Canadian research or study, the advantages to the home institution and peers, the likelihood that everyone involved in the exchange will benefit—the Canadian university, the supervisor, and the peers—as well as the standings provided by the Canadian institution.

Note: Priority will be given to applicants who have never received a scholarship under the Study in Canada Scholarships program.

Each application is submitted on behalf of the candidates by the Canadian institution. It is recommended that Canadian institutions carefully study the instructions before beginning the online application. Instructions for Canadian institutions

Institutions should email scholarships-bourses@cbie.ca if they are having trouble filling out or submitting the form.


Every applicant must submit an online application to Canadian institutions.

Institutions must first create an account if they don't already have one.

The institution should select the "For Non-Canadians" section, select the "Study in Canada Scholarships" program, and then click "Apply Now."

The original language of any document that is not in English or French must be translated into that language.
