A fully financed award for international students is the MEXT Scholarship 2023–2024. This grant is offered for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and training programs. The MEXT scholarship will pay for your tuition, housing, monthly living expenses, and round-trip air passage from your nation to Japan.


Under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships Program, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan provides financial aid to foreign students who want to pursue undergraduate or graduate-level research degrees at Japanese universities. 


The MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship application cycle is typically issued in April. IELTS/TOEFL and Japanese language proficiency are not prerequisites for this fellowship.

Coverage of MEXT Scholarships

A fully funded scholarship for international students to study in Japan is available through the MEXT Scholarship 2023. The following advantages will be given to the recipient of this scholarship:


Allowances: Preparation Allowance and Monthly Stipend Allowance (2023 Rate)

Education Fees: MEXT will cover the costs of the entrance exam and university tuition.

Spending on travel: Travel to Japan: MEXT will pay for your round-trip airfare from your country to Japan. For the flight, the airline ticket will be an Economy-class ticket.

Accommodations: University-provided residence halls for overseas students.

MEXT Scholarship Requirements for 2023

The applicant must satisfy each of the conditions listed below in order to be eligible for the MEXT Scholarship: 


English is a required language.

All nations in the world are eligible.

Candidates must be citizens of a countries with which Japan has diplomatic ties.

A candidate who at the time of application was a citizen of Japan is ineligible.

For undergraduate students, you must be at least 17 years old, under 25, and have finished 12 years of schooling or courses equivalent to a high school (includes prospective graduates)

You must be under 35 and a college graduate to apply for the Masters or PhD program (includes prospective graduates). Maybe your schooling must have lasted 16 or 18 years.

For students enrolled in teacher education, you must be under 35 and a graduate of a university or teacher preparation program college. You must have at least five years of current teaching experience in your nation's elementary, secondary, or teacher preparation institutions.

Students interested in studying Japanese must be between the ages of 18 and 30. When applicants arrive in Japan, they must be enrolled as undergraduate students in faculties or schools that specialize in Japanese language or culture at a university outside of Japan, and they must be enrolled in the home institution when they depart for their home countries.

How to Apply for a 2023 MEXT Scholarship

To apply for a MEXT Scholarship, please follow the application steps below:


Using here, locate the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your nation.

Visit the Japanese Embassy's webpage in your nation. You may locate the MEXT scholarship under the Education / Scholarship tab.

Download and complete the MEXT scholarship application.

Send the necessary paperwork to the Japanese embassy in your nation (see list below).
