Scholarships for Studying Abroad in the Best Student Cities in the World

 

Want to further your studies in one of the top student cities on the planet? The top 10 cities this year in the list of the Best Student Cities are London, Tokyo, Melbourne, Munich, Berlin, Montréal, Paris, Zurich, Sydney, Seoul, and Hong Kong (technically 11, as two are tied for the top spot) (SAR).


If you want to attend school in one of these cities but require financial assistance, look no further. In reverse order (10-1) of how each of these towns placed this year, the list of scholarships available to overseas students in each of these locations is shown below.


All scholarships have different requirements, so before applying, be sure to read all of the information provided by each scholarship source. 


10. Scholarships for Hong Kong universities

In this year's Best Student Cities, Hong Kong (SAR) has moved up two spots and is now tied for tenth with another Asian megacity Seoul.


HKSAR Government Scholarships Fund - The government offers scholarships for local and international students to attend certain institutions in Hong Kong, including the Belt and Road Scholarship for exceptional students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam (it will be expanded in phases to students from other Belt and Road countries).

International students can apply for PhD scholarships through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) to study at a particular university in Hong Kong.

University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong (HKUST)

Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Hong Kong University (HKU) both score ten. Financial aid for students in Seoul, South Korea

This year, Hong Kong (SAR) and Seoul (one of Asia's most interesting student cities) are tied for tenth place overall. 18 universities that are rated in the QS World University Rankings® 2020 are located in Seoul, together with a sizable foreign student population. Opportunities for funding are listed below. 


General financial aid to South Korea:


50 graduate scholarships are available through the KFAS International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) for students from Asia to attend prestigious universities in South Korea.

Master's and PhD scholarships are available through the Korean Government Scholarship Program for foreign students studying in South Korea.

Awards for studies in Seoul:


Tuition waiver scholarships are available to international students attending Chung-Ang University, as well as reduced dormitory fees.

Scholarships for the Seoul National University Exchange Program - Various awards for foreign exchange students attending Seoul National University.

International students attending Sogang University in Seoul who are enrolled in the Sogang Exchange Program are eligible for the Sogang Global Scholarship.

Scholarships for studies in Sydney, Australia, offered by Hanyang University and Kyung Hee University

Sydney is ranked second for both the desirableness and student mix factors in this year's survey of the Best Student Cities, confirming that its broad population of students is undoubtedly appreciating the city's laid-back lifestyle. Check out the scholarships available below.

Australia Awards Scholarships and Fellowships - The Australian government offers scholarships and fellowships for international students to study in Australia at any level (bachelor's, master's, or PhD).

Scholarships for International Students at Destination Australia - Both domestic and foreign students may apply for more than 1,000 scholarships up to AU$15,000 per student each year to study at all levels at universities in regional Australia. 


Australian scholarships for graduate students from anywhere in the globe to study for a research degree at an Australian university that is a participant in the Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP).

financial aid for students in Sydney:


The Macquarie University Vice-International Chancellor's Scholarship offers 'exceptional' international students who wish to study in Australia at Macquarie University in Sydney partial tuition fee assistance. Not open to residents of Australia or New Zealand.

Scholarships for engineering and IT students at the University of Technology in Sydney are available for both undergraduate and graduate students.

8. Grants for studying in Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland and home to some of the country's top colleges, notably ETH Zurich (The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), the sixth-best university in the world, is ranked eighth in the list of the Best Student Cities.


Unfortunately, the cost of attending school in Zurich is high, however the following scholarships may be helpful:


Swiss scholarships generally:


Excellence Scholarships from the Swiss Government for International Scholars and Artists Opportunities for merit-based financial aid for foreign students enrolling in postgraduate programs at particular Swiss universities.

Awards for studies in Zurich 


Merit-based scholarships are available to students who want to pursue their master's degree at ETH Zurich through the ETH Zurich Excellence Masters Scholarship Program.

Graduates from all over the world who have been offered a place to study at the Zurich Graduate School of Economics are eligible for the UBS Center Scholarship at the University of Zurich.

7. Financial aid for students in Paris, France

General awards for studying in France abroad:


Erasmus+ is a pan-European initiative run by the European Commission that provides financial aid to non-European students wishing to pursue academic studies there. 


International Students Can Apply for Eiffel Scholarships in France International graduate students seeking to attend particular universities in Paris (and the rest of France) may apply for master's and doctoral scholarships.

HEC Paris РThe Fort̩ Foundation Scholarships are available to excellent female candidates who wish to pursue an MBA at HEC Paris.

Paris Sciences Po Edward Boutmy Scholarships for International Students in France - Opportunities for non-EU citizens to receive money to attend Sciences Po Paris for their bachelor's and master's degrees.

ENS Paris's International Selection - Scholarships for graduate students to study in the departments of the humanities or sciences at ENS Paris. 


Scholarships for Studying in Paris at the Master's Level at the Paris Campus of the University of Kent are offered by the University of Kent.

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships are fellowships and grants offered by the Canadian government to graduate students who wish to pursue studies in the natural and social sciences or in the field of health research.

IDRC Research Awards are scholarships provided by the Canadian government to graduate students from developing nations who wish to pursue a postgraduate research degree at a particular Canadian university.

Graduate students from any OAS member state are eligible for the Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarship Program, which is administered by the Canadian government.

Trudeau Scholarships and Fellowships - Scholarships, fellowships, and mentorships for foreign students enrolled at certain institutions in Canada for doctoral-level study.

Merit-based scholarships are available through the Université de Montréal's Fondation Olivier et Yvonne Poirier for Caribbean students desiring to enroll in courses there.

5. Financial aid for students in Berlin, Germany

Germany's capital is one of the trendiest in Europe and one of the most inexpensive, with free tuition for undergraduate and graduate degrees, moving up two spots in this year's Best Student Cities survey. Scholarships from DAAD Numerous scholarships for international students to study in Germany at various degree levels are available through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The European Commission oversees Erasmus+, the largest supplier of scholarships for study in the EU, which provides money to overseas students to attend school there. It offers funds to help with living expenses for those taking part in exchange programs to study in Europe.

4. Financial aid for students in Munich, Germany

According to the student view indicator, Munich has moved up two spots to place first among this year's Best Student Cities. It is renowned for its thriving Bavarian culture and beer and is ranked first overall. Similar to Berlin, it obtains great marks for affordability, but because lodging is more expensive, you might want to look into financial aid.

The Deutschland Stipendium provides €300 monthly merit-based scholarships to encourage exceptionally gifted students in Germany. Your application does not take into account your personal income or nationality.

Tokyo, which holds second position in the list of the best student cities, has 12 institutions that have won awards internationally and gives students the chance to experience one of the most famous and interesting cities in the world.

MEXT Scholarships from the Japanese Government for International Research Students - Government awards for graduate students participating in research programs in Japan.

International Students' "Design the Future" Award from Keio University - Keio University offers full-tuition scholarships to international students in any discipline.

1. Grants for study in London, United Kingdom

British Chevening Scholarships: The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office funds these graduate scholarships for study in London and the rest of the UK. Open to any international students studying full- or part-time in any topic. 


Commonwealth Scholarships for Commonwealth Countries in Development - The UK Department for International Development sponsors master's and doctoral scholarships for students from Commonwealth developing nations (DFID).

Graduate students enrolled in taught master's programs in the UK may apply for scholarships through the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme at UK Universities.

UK-based Euraxess For graduate students wanting to study in the UK, Euraxess UK, which is operated by the British Council, provides a number of scholarships.

International students can study engineering at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the UK thanks to the QMUL International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards.
