Students who have previously been successful in applying for scholarships are the ideal people to ask for help on the process. To help you locate and apply for scholarships, we asked some of this year's QS Scholarship winners for their best advice. And this is what they said:

1. Apply as soon as you can.

Although you're probably already tired of hearing this advise, our scholarship recipients say it was crucial to their success. According to Alexis Csizmazia, who was awarded one of this year's QS-IE University Scholarships, "Schools have a fixed amount of financing available and the earlier you submit, the more you will earn and the easier it will be to secure a scholarship."

2. Look for opportunities on university websites.

The websites of the institutions are a good location to start your scholarship search if you are aware of which ones you wish to attend. The 2015 QS Connect Masters 1-2-1 Scholarship recipient, Doris Fang, advises applicants to browse the institution's website before submitting an application. The university's website typically provides a wealth of information on scholarships, financial aid, and other forms of funding.

3. Look for additional scholarship sponsors.

Our scholarship recipients often emphasize the value of searching outside of colleges for additional scholarship sources, such as the QS Scholarships program. Thuy Phamova Thanh, who was awarded one of the QS-Manchester Business School Scholarships, asserts that "research is the key." "Speak to individuals and look for funding options utilizing various resources, such as libraries, the internet, or books."

4. Focus on the subject of the application essay.

Once you've found scholarships you should apply for, the following step is to make sure each one is well-targeted for the audience. the potential in question Salimatou Balde, a different recipient of a QS-IE University Scholarship, advocates taking the time to research the topic of the application essay. "Identify all the relevant words, spend time understanding them, and when you answer, strictly stick to the question."

5. Have another person read your application.

Constructive criticism can not only assist you in locating typos or other problems, but it can also assist you in being more cognizant of your own pertinent accomplishments and qualities. According to Stephen Jarvis, who won the 2015 QS Academic Excellence Scholarship, "my scholarship applications have always been much improved after I've had someone to pass a critical eye over them." "If it's someone who understands your perspective, they can frequently think of things that you hadn't, in addition to offering assistance." You edit the content for clarity and grammar.

6. Effective time management.

If you're managing many scholarship applications, time management is very important. Create a calendar with all the deadlines, allow yourself enough time to complete each application, and make sure you submit all the necessary paperwork. Valentina Sandulova, the recipient of the QS EDHEC-Business School Scholarship this year, was simultaneously employed full-time. Be persistent in your application and time management so that you may fulfill all deadlines, she counsels.

7. Don't stop applying!

The final and most frequent piece of advise from our scholarship recipients is really straightforward: stop second-guessing yourself, and start applying! At first, I wasn't sure if I should apply for this scholarship or any others because of how competitive they are. says Lee MacPherson, recipient of the QS Leadership Scholarship. But making the effort was one of my best choices ever, I said.

All of our scholarship recipients acknowledge that they received numerous rejection letters before finding success, demonstrating the importance and value of continuing to apply. You can never be sure which scholarship application will be accepted. Last but not least, Thuy advises, "Never give up on your dreams.
